Dolby Headphones
Incredible Signal Processing makes the Dolby Dimension a singularly unique Headphone
I first tried these Dolby headphones about a month ago and can say they are unlike any other headphone I’ve ever tried. They are my favorite headphone to date. What’s interesting is they are nothing like the extremely highly regarded AudioQuest NightOwl Carbon Headphones that I posted earlier.
While Dimension headphones appear very well constructed, with premium quality components, it’s the signal processing that makes them stand out. There are five separate and unique signal-processing features that make these wireless headphones so remarkable. Let’s go into each of them one-by-one.
DOLBY LIFEMIX™
This mind-blowingly useful feature lets you dial in exactly how much of your surroundings you want to hear. You have the Active Noise Cancellation feature that uses five omni-directional microphones on the headphone’s perforated steel exterior which seem to create an inverse sine wave effectively removing external noise. Extremely useful as you can imagine but LifeMix also lets you reverse the feature to get the opposite effect. You can use the same microphones to turn the headphones into a super listening device, able to pick up whispers from across the room. As the name implies, LifeMix lets you “mix” how much outside “life” makes it into your ears.
CINEMATIC SOUND
Like watching movies? Turn on Virtualization and you’ll enjoy a fully immersive surround sound experience. This advanced DSP or digital signal processing, enhances the sound in both movies and music. If you have content created in Dolby Atmos, these headphones will automatically decode the signal providing you the best possible sound. Here’s a great video on how Dolby Atmos works in headphones:
HEAD TRACKING
Imagine you’re at a concert and the band is playing in front of you. If you are facing them then the sound hits both your ears simultaneously. If you turn left or right the sound will naturally hit one hear before the other. This is simple physics and our brain expects this to happen. Head Tracking is a feature that mimics this natural phenomenon. When switched on the music seems like it’s always right in front of you, even while you’re rocking out, providing a more realistic experience.
ONE-TOUCH SWITCHING
You want your headphones to work with multiple Bluetooth devices without having to “forget this device” & “pair” every time. Moving from room to room and device to device should be simple so you can focus on your show instead of on menus and settings. With Dolby Dimension, a single button press (on the ear cup) connects you straight to your device. It features three Source Buttons that can easily be paired with three different devices. And with the Dolby Dimension app, you can manage up to eight devices
CONTROLLING YOUR SOUND
Swiping is now second nature to us. Finger Touch Controls on the earpiece, similar to what you’re used to on your smartphone, let you swipe & tap to turn on features, play or pause, adjust the volume, track advance, etc.
