In-Home Organizing Seminar with Industry Experts

The Container Store near the Los Angeles Farmer’s Market, just off Fairfax Ave., now contains a new Custom Closets store inside it. Pardon the pun. They held an event Wednesday, August 14th and I was able to meet and speak to several professional organizers.

Sara Getzkin, a professional organizer whose company is called Hands On Organizing Services explains to me the differences between an interior decorator and a professional organizer. “A decorator chooses form over function while an organizer chooses function over form.” Sara really seemed to know her stuff. I later learned she was a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Learn more about Sara by visiting her website:

Additionally, several members of ASID attended. I met with Dawn Sundstrom and the effervescent Michelle LaFresch, both of whom I’d met earlier in the day at my own showroom in Culver City. They are from a company called Inspired Closets. Check out their website here: https://www.inspiredclosets.com/

Also inside the Container Store is Horderly, an in-home organizing service. I spoke to Jamie & Fillip Hord of Horderly about organizing and it’s effect on maintaining a steady, functional home and lifestyle. You can watch their video below.

I discovered professional organizers all suffer from the customer having too much unnecessary tech that clutters up their environment. They can maximize space but need help determining what wires can be removed and what wires need to stay. Clients are losing time hunting for things and wasting time getting smart-systems to work properly. More space and time is the common goal.

The take away in all this is that true organization is a team effort. Combining the expertise of professional organizers with that of a certified technology expert can turn your home into something functional and efficient, both spatially and temporally.
